On Sunday afternoon, I spent some time gathered with a group of dear friends. We met at church, and though that specific community no longer exists, our little community does. We meet every few weeks at our friends’ house and try to be intentional with our conversation—bringing it back around to the ways we see God showing up (or not) in our lives and the things we’re learning along the way.
Yesterday, our conversation meandered around from caring what others think of us, to learning to not care, to identity, to the idea of a “true self.” What—or perhaps who— is my true self? Do I know her? When I push past all the personality, habits, behaviors, and even gifts…who am I in the deepest, most central part of my being—where Christ resides? Who am I as I dwell with and within Christ?
With that question in mind…
A benediction for Monday, January 22, 2024:
May you remember that somewhere below or beyond your interests, your personality, your behavior, and your dreams is a child of God, created and sustained by love.
May you receive the deep peace available when you are able to cease striving for your “best self” and instead, rest in your true self.
Amen.
Wow, this is beautiful.
